On why this already is my favorite year.

7 Jan

December 30

Zach and I got up at 2:30 (no no wait, Zach stayed up, I woke up) to take the 4am bus ride to Baguio. I love early mornings. 7 hours and some later, we arrived and took a cab to tita Emily’s. We had waffles and awesome mountain grown coffee. And then, wait for it: thirty minutes after we decided to digest our food restfully in the living room watching Discovery Channel, the maid calls us:  LUNCH NA PO, ATE, KUYA. Haha wonderful.

We spent the rest of the lazy afternoon, quite aptly, lazing around. Left to catch RIZALOSALO, Kabu’s production at Vocas later on, and much to my chagrin, an impromptu performance.

Whaddyaknow. My last gig of the year. Without my guitar. Haha. Thank you Mighty Bhutens for your lovely glow in ze dark geetar.

Nothing quite like beer in Baguio.  We got hungry, ate the best balut I’ve ever had, and called it a night.

December 31

Had breakfast at Gecko’s, lovely hole in the wall along Session Road. Booked a florist (for ridiculously cheap)

In true Baguio fashion, slept, lazed around, ate dinner, then fell asleep in the living room, cuddled up in blankets and pillows by my aunt’s bay window.

Was awakened by Zach, handing me his jacket, telling me to come scoot over to the next house, (my cousins’ house) since everyone was asleep in my aunt’s place. (Yes, at 9pm hahaha)

My little nephew and nieces greeted us, asking us if we wanted hot chocolate and pandesal.  Funny how well behaved kids are when they know their folks aren’t watching. Haha

We saw the site of the wedding, breathtaking. With pine trees as a backdrop, grass and so much sky: What a way to start this awesome awesome union.

Dearest Zechariah,

I love how this year started with you and me dipping pandesal in hot chocolate, me swaddled in your jacket that smells like you. I love how my nephew and nieces are more excited to see you than they are to see me. I love how you take pictures, and I love how I always, always want to know what you’re thinking.

Here we go, acting like grown ups, reserving wedding sites, picking linens and flowers, readying invitations and making downpayments on gowns, but really, Zach, you make me feel like a little girl.

Brand new, swaddled in your jacket

that smells like you.

Cheers love, this is our year.

This year we will always remember, and it’ll keep on getting better. I love how you write me letters, when i try to reply my heart stutters. Birds of the same feather, flock together. Like a pandesal without butter, i’m at the end of my vocabulary’s tether…

“me swaddled in your jacket that smells like you…” – i certainly hope this jacket smells nice.
